Range Rules & Procedures (rev. 10/2020)
General Ground Rules
The members own the property our range is located on, roughly situated between the railroad tracks and the creek (North to South) and from the Leichty Rd. entrance to the end of the woods (East to West). Members may use the property to target shoot, fish, camp, hike, etc. in the proper designated areas.
Your club membership badge is required at all times while on club property.
It is prohibited to use or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while on club grounds.
When traffic is on the railroad tracks such as pedestrians, trains, maintenance vehicles, etc., shooting must stop in all areas until the traffic has passed the property.
Hours for firearm use begin Sundays at 12:00 noon, Monday thru Saturday at 7:30a.m. Using the O.D.N.R. Daylight tables, shooting before dawn and after dusk is strictly prohibited at all times and if you need lights of any kind… DO NOT SHOOT.
When entering the range and there is already a vehicle(s) there and you see no one around, be conscious of the fact that someone is there.
Keep the sport and club grounds clean - if you make a mess, clean it up.
NO horseplay and keep profanity limited.
NO hunting is allowed on the club grounds.
NO explosive targets are allowed.
NO tracer ammunition is allowed.
Firearms and ammunition's used at the range are both expected to be in safe working order and legal.
Any type of legal firearm is permitted except for dangerous ordinance, fully automatic, those capable of firing the .50-BMG cartridge or cannons.
NO recreational motorcycle, snowmobile or ATV riding is allowed on the club grounds, except limited ATV use during sporting clays, work vehicles or permitted sanctioned club events.
Training or instruction for a business is prohibited, as for example; gun handling or CCW classes, although training members for the benefit of club programs such as becoming NRA Instructors or RSOs will be exempt.
Rifles, pistols or shotguns are permitted on both Rifle Range and Pistol Bunker. You must abide by the rules for that particular range.
Single projectile firearms must be used either on the Rifle Range or the Pistol Bunker, shooting into the target boards. For example rifles, shotgun with slugs, handguns, muzzle loaders, air rifles, etc.
When shooting shotguns, you must be at the Rifle Range firing line, Pistol Bunker or back at the Tower.a) Using shot larger than #7 ½ must be on the Rifle Range or Pistol Bunker shooting into the earthen backstops.b) Using shot #7 ½ or smaller shoot from the firing line directing your shot down range.c) Using shot #7 ½ or smaller you may also shoot from the tower located at the back area of the clubs property directing shots towards the railroad tracks.
When posting paper targets on either range, they must be placed within the white lines of the target boards.
Glass or pottery items are not allowed to be used as targets anywhere.
Anyone found shooting in non-designated areas, directions, at buildings or unapproved targets could be subject to dismissal from the club and possible prosecution.
Other weapons permitted; Bows, Crossbows, Knives or Tomahawks with targets (foam, 3-D, etc.) being placed down range of a firing line. You may also use them back at the tower, directing shots toward the railroad tracks.
Rapid firing firearms of more than a few shots must be done in the Pistol Bunker to help prevent errant bullet strikes from missing the target boards and earthen backstop.
NO bump stocks are allowed or anything that mimics Full Auto firing, such as manually bump firing firearms.
Guests, limit of two per visit, may be invited to the range. They then have a limit of two visits, for the same person, per year after which they are obligated to apply for a membership themselves. To bring more than two guests in the same visit, an officer must be notified and permission granted prior to the visit. **Remember- your guests are your responsibility, they are expected to follow all club rules the same as any other member and their destructive or inappropriate behavior will put your membership in jeopardy.
Camping, for members and guests is permitted. Do not put your campsite down range of any firing line and be aware of days we have club sponsored shoots. Tend to any fire you start then make sure it is out and filled in before leaving camp. Camping is limited to 1 week at a time.
Be sure to follow these NRA Safety Rules while on club property.
Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use
Store guns so that they are not accessible to unauthorized persons
Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety rules
Know your target and what is beyond
Be sure the gun is safe to operate
Know how to use the gun safely
Use only the correct ammunition for the gun

Rifle Range (Pavilion & Prone Platform) 25/50/100yd
The front edge of the pavilion, towards the target boards, is considered the firing line and is the line the muzzle of your gun must be on. It extends from the front edge of the pavilion over to the front edge of the prone platform.
.Before anyone goes down range (beyond the firing line) or when a cease fire is called, they must communicate their intentions with everyone along the entire firing line.
Before anyone goes down range (beyond the firing line) - all firearms must be unloaded, actions open then racked or cased, untouched until the firing line is safe again.
Before anyone goes down range (beyond the firing line) - an orange cone or the flashing overhead lights must be utilized, this notifies incoming members to realize someone is down range.
When using the prone platform with firearms having single projectiles, only shoot at the lower #1 target board at the 100yd earthen bunker.
Firearms must be carried muzzle up, while on the concrete under the pavilion.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - is to be placed on top of the target board frames or the earthen backstops for the purpose of being shot at, for example, cans, clay targets, water bottles, etc.
Shoot the corresponding target boards to which bench you are on or only the one adjacent, with the exception of special events having Range Safety Officers.
The Spectator’s Line is the cut in the concrete that runs the length of the middle of the pavilion.
People at the range that are not actively involved with the shooter must stay back behind the spectator line.
Loading your firearms :
a)You may load detachable magazines or stripper clips at the benches or tables but Do Not to put them in the firearm until you have reached the firing line and have the muzzle pointed down range.
b) Non-detachable magazines such as tube magazines or single shots must not be loaded until at the firing line with the muzzle pointed down range.
c) No round is ever to be chambered, unless you are on the firing line with the muzzle pointing down range.
d) You may load muzzle loaders at the bench or table but Do Not cap or Prime the firearm until you are at the firing line with the muzzle pointed down range.
NO SMOKING is permitted when black powder is present under the pavilion.
13. Only factory black powder or manufacturers recommended propellants are to be used in muzzle loaders.
Pistol Bunker
Anytime there are multiple shooters and spectators, everyone must decide and abide by a common firing line.
Before anyone goes down range (beyond the firing line) or when a cease fire is called, they must communicate their intentions with everyone along the entire firing line.
Before anyone goes down range (beyond the firing line) all firearms must be unloaded, actions open then tabled or cased, untouched until the firing line is safe again.
4. Firearms must be carried muzzle down while out in the bunker and muzzle up while on the pavilion concrete.
5. No shots are to be taken any further than 25yds from the target boards.
6. No center fire rifles, in this area, may be used for shooting steel targets.
7. Absolutely no shooting into the side wings of the pistol bunker.
When shooting shotguns.
a) For patterning of any size shot, post your paper in the area designated for steel targets.
b) For slugs, direct shots into the target boards or the area designated for steel targets.
c) No shots are to be directed above the earthen bunker, with exception of special events with Range Safety Officers.
Steel Targets
Steel targets must be made of AR450/AR500/AR600 grade steel or better for center fire ammunition also free from deformation or deep gouging, helping to prevent errant ricochets.
NO armor piercing ammunition may be used on steel targets.
Steel targets, on the Rifle Range, must only be placed at 100yd when using center fire ammunition.
Steel plate targets, on the Rifle Range, must be hung from the specific bracket/hanger in place for that purpose.
Steel plate targets, in the Pistol Bunker, must be hung from the framework to the right of the target boards.
Steel swinger type targets, on the Rifle Range, must be placed in front of the 100yd target boards no further away than 2ft from the target board.
Steel swinger type targets, in the Pistol Bunker, must be placed in front of the target boards or the area for hanging steel plate type targets and no further away than 2ft from the framework.
Concealed Carry
Concealed Carry is permitted if the individual has a valid Concealed Carry License.
Pistols used for CCW or holstered for Open Carry must properly be stored on your body and remain that way at all times.
If the firearm is removed from your person for shooting or display, it must then follow the Range Rules for the Rifle Range or Pistol Bunker, which ever you are at.
The firearm may only be re-holstered while the range is hot and you are off the concrete of either pavilion.
During any organized shooting event, the Organizing Person or Range Safety Officer in charge will determine if carrying a concealed firearm during that event will be permitted.
